In March of 2023, the National Institute for Infectious Diseases „Prof. Dr. Matei Bals” gathered 24 years of existence and experience, its birth certificate being represented by the Order of Ministry of Health, March 1999 through which the Clinical Hospital for Infectious Diseases „Colentina” became a national institute, a category I sanitary unit, under the coordination of Ministry of Health. That particular moment was an important inflexion point for boosting the scientific, research and clinical activities as well as the Infectious Diseases Curricula.
Looking at this beautiful age of 24 years through the lens of almost three years of fight against SARS-CoV-2 pandemic one could overlap it with the maintenance of the Institute’s scientific spirit, with the tireless effort in the area of health, of good and humanity progress- that mark all of us who work or are in contact with this entity.
And we are referring to the Institute as to an entity because it is more than just an institution: it is an organization with an established culture, whose roots became firm in the early beginnings, supported by the scientific personality of Professor Matei Bals, from whom it inherited, naturally, the name. Furthermore, several important personalities of the Romanian medical world marked our Institute’s path.
To continue the abovementioned facts, scientific research and activity will remain for The National Institute for Infectious Diseases „Prof. Dr. Matei Balș” of primordial importance for day-to-day activity as well as the special occasions such as The Scientific Days of the National Institute for Infectious Diseases „Prof. Dr. Matei Balș”.
We hereby invite you, as every year, to continue the Infectious Diseases tradition and to write together the future of Infectious Diseases!
Prof. Dr. Anca Streinu-Cercel
Chairman
